Hello!
I’m sharing an ATC wood box I created for Tando Creative today. The theme on our Tando Challenge Blog this month is “Recycle/Upcycle”. Up for grabs this month are 4 pieces of Tando chipboard of your choice! All you have to do is create a piece incorporating the monthly theme and link to the Tando Creative Challenge Blog. You don’t have to use Tando products, but, if you do you’ll be entered into the draw twice, doubling your chances to win. We don’t have many rules, as rules spoil the fun, but in order to be in with a chance of winning we do ask that your project is entered for a maximum of 5 challenges, including Tando.
for my project, I used a fantastic Tando’s Stencil/Mask designed by Andy Skinner: Incognito. It’s 12″x3″ long, and that was the perfect size to wrap my box round the four edges with different patterns! My box is an old wood drawer that belonged to my husband’s grandfather (very precious gift in my eyes) so I really wanted to do something with this. I don’t know what was its function originally… but my in-law grandfather was an italian lumberjack, so I wanted to alter and recycle it in the respect of wood as a noble material. I chose a vintage style for this reason. The wood colour remains visible underneath my paints, and that’s what I really wanted. I have recycled it into a little box of Artist Trading Cards as the inside has the corresponding size (aroung 65 cm). I keep for a second stage another one (larger, but perfect also for my ATCs!), I missed time to decorate this latter as I originally planned to do!
Je partage avec vous une boite en bois que j’ai altérée pour y ranger mes ATCs, pour illustrer notre challenge en cours sur le blog de challenges de Tando Creative, le thème ce mois-ci est le Recyclage. Pour mon projet, j’ai recyclé un vieux casier, précieux à mes yeux car il appartenait au grand-père de mon mari, un émigrant italien.. Comme il était bucheron de son métier, je n’ai pas voulu dénaturer cet objet en bois! Du coup j’ai choisi de laisser le bois apparent et de la redécorer dans un style vintage, comme je ne suis pas une spécialiste de ce style vous me direz ce que vous en pensez… ^^ Je garde une seconde boite en réserve pour le même usage, un peu plus large même, j’aurais bien aimé faire les 2 d’un coup mais j’ai manqué de temps!
The text I chose to put on my box (“The biggest adventure you can take is to live the life of your dreams”) comes from a set “Grand Tour III” by IndigoBlu. I was enough lucky to win it on the Facebook page of the Craft Stamper magazine, yeah!!
Le texte que j’ai choisi de mettre sur ma boite (“The biggest adventure you can take is to live the life of your dreams”) vient d’un set de tampons d’IndigoBlu que j’ai eu la chance de gagner!! (en répondant à une question sur la page Facebook du magazine Craft Stamper): la planche “Grand Tour III”.
Here’s how I altered my box: I first sanded it on all faces, removing large parts of red wax in the middle (but not all for the vintage side). I then applied a mix of Grunge Paste and black Gesso over my stencil Incognito side after side, using a bit of masking tape to maintain it in position. When dry, I put my stencil again over the box at the same areas and applied over PA Crackle Glaze… The last stage was to cover parts of the texture up with paints, I used Distress paints Black soot and Antiqued Bronze, and also PA Cinnamon and Chocolate Pudding. Once dry, I added lightly Treasure Gold Ruby and also Florentine, and buffed those… love the final result.
Côté technique, j’ai d’abord bien poncé ma boite; il y avait de gros morceaux de cire rouge au centre que j’ai retiré, j’en ai juste laissé un tout petit peu pour accentuer le côté vintage… j’ai appliqué un mélange de Grunge paste et de Gesso noir sur mon pochoir Incognito, face après face. Attention à bien maintenir le pochoir en place si vous voulez que les motifs soient bien dessinés! (avec du ruban de masquage). Et bien laisser sécher surtout…
Ensuite, j’ai appliqué une couche de Crackle Glaze (Paper Artsy) sur ma texture en remettant le mask en place, et une fois sec, j’ai terminé par l’application de peintures. Pour obtenir un rendu comme le mien, il vous faut de la peinture noire et cuivrée (j’ai utilisé des Distress paints Black soot et Antiqued Bronze). Je me suis aussi servie de mes peintures acryliques PA Fresco Finish dans les tons marron et rouille pour accentuer les couleurs et ajouter des nuances (Cinnamon et Chocolate Pudding). Et pour finir, j’ai ajouté un peu de Treasure Gold Ruby et Florentine… bien frotté pour faire briller lol! Bon, je vous donne tout le matériel que j’utilise, et il y en a beaucoup donc ça peut vous faire peur, je sais. Mais ce n’est évidemment pas le but… Je souhaite juste partager avec vous mes expériences et mes réas, je me dis que ça peut toujours servir d’apprendre à faire ce genre de chose et de savoir quelles sont les étapes, ou encore de connaître la marque d’un produit sur lequel vous flashez; Après, vous pouvez toujours adapter à votre matériel bien sûr !!!!
I rubbed the background of my box with Distress Stain Rusty Hinge, Fired Brick and Vintage Photo. The monkey stamp is by Katzelkraft (KTZ118 ‘So Special’), as well as the stamped cogs I put on the top of some sides (KTZ113, ‘Steampunk elements’). I also added Crackle Accents on my distressed monkey, I cut it out with a round punch and affixed it. The beautiful metal flower was a leftover of an previous project, using one of the PA flower dies, I also stamped over it and distressed a bit using Patina Vintaj opaque inks. I used PA HP1004EZ, HPXT02E2 and HPXT01E2. Here are the photos of all sides now, hope you like… 🙂
Le fond de ma boite est frotté aux Distress Stain Rusty Hinge, Fired Brick et Vintage Photo. Le tampon singe que vous voyez (ainsi que les engrenages sur papier sur les autres côtés) est de Katzelkraft. Je l’ai découpé dans du papier aquarelle, encré et j’y ai ajouté du Crackle accents (Ranger) en couche épaisse. La fleur en métal est faite avec un die Paper Artsy, j’ai aussi utilisé mes tampons Hot Picks Paper Artsy (HP1004EZ, HPXT02E2 et HPXT01E2) sur la fleur et pour les petits engrenages… J’y ai ajouté un peu d’encre couleur rouille et verdigris (Patina Vintaj).. Bon, je vous laisse tranquillement faire le tour en photos maintenant !… 😀

To end, here’s an inside view of my ATC drawer, I played with lovely PEPEO Fantasy paints with my twins, they adore these paints!…
Je vous montre aussi l’intérieur que j’ai décoré aux peintures PEBEO Fantasy… Je suis super contente, car ça m’a donné l’occasion de tester ENFIIIIIN des peintures qui m’ont été offertes par ma copinette Sandra il y a déjà bien longtemps (oups… je les avais un peu égarées d’ailleurs à force d’attendre ahah), et elles sont géniales ces peintures !!! Mes deux petites jumelles sont elles aussi réalisé des boites à crayon avec de super jolis fonds comme celui-ci, je vous les montrerai peut-être une autre fois.
